WHAT IS ZIRCONIUM?

Normally, in porcelain applications, metal is used in the substructure for durability. However, due to the damage to the gums and aesthetic disadvantages of this metal substructure, the search for an alternative material to metal has been going on for many years.

Zirconium, which is also used in other fields of medicine, has opened a new era by replacing metal in the production of porcelain crowns in dentistry. Porcelain crowns made with zirconium are preferred because they do not cause gingival problems, are non-allergenic, provide aesthetics close to natural teeth due to their full light transmission feature, since they are prepared with cad-cam technique.

Disadvantages
  • High cost compared to other alternatives.
  • It cannot be used as a bridge in very long missing teeth because it will not be durable.
